Can You Believe We Are 6 Months Into 2023?

It’s June. I know you know it’s June, but IT’S JUNE PEOPLE!!! Have you

started your Christmas shopping? We are actually shopping for airline

tickets for our adult kids for Thanksgiving. Can you believe we are six months into 2023?

What has happened in your lives in the last six months?

Probably just like you, I feel as though the year is not halfway but three-quarters of the

way over. I have lived enough moons to realize that summer sweeps by so quickly

and once fall is in the air, the days are but brief moments. So again, I ask, what

have you done in the last six months?

Let me share what I have been up to. We began the new year with

sorrow. Our youngest adult child passed away on Christmas Day. He had

been fighting MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) for over

two years. MRSA is very difficult to treat as it is resistant to most

antibiotics. He was severely disabled and was diagnosed with cerebral

palsy at eight months old. The bacteria had finally settled in his heart and

he died in my arms at home. Our family gathered in our previous home of

Oregon to celebrate his life and remember the joy he had given our family

and community.

February was a blur as we rebalanced our lives. Our son was the youngest of

six children and we had been his caregivers for 37 years. Now we are

truly empty nesters and slightly lost. We centered our axis by traveling to

Houston, Texas in March to visit 4 of our grandchildren and experience the

Houston Rodeo!

From March until now, we have been a quest to keep up our health. My husband will

be 70 this fall and I turned 69 in April. I have been physically active since

my fifth baby was born in 1983 and I was overwhelmed! Lifting and

carrying my non-ambulatory son for 37 years was motivating and helpful in

building biceps and back muscles. Now that he is gone, I knew it

would be easy to fall into a sedentary life. But that is not how I a choosing to live!

This blog and my social media are a record of how I’m choosing

to age and live my life. I hope I can grow my circle of silver sisters and “boomer babes”.

Please share my pages if you find them helpful and tune in weekly to my

podcast, SHE BECAME VISIBLE (shebecamevisible.org).

I only interview women and I highlight women of all ages who have stood

up and declared, “I am here!”

Have a great summer!
